SW 27th Street/Strander Boulevard Extension Project, Phase 1, Segment 2A

Description – This project will construct a two-lane roadway from the SW 27th Street / Naches Ave SW intersection westward. A new BNSF railway bridge will be constructed, and the two-lane roadway will go under the BNSF tracks and then head north, connecting with the future Sound Transit Tukwila Commuter Rail Station.
Schedule – The SW 27th Street / Strander Boulevard Extension– Phase 1, Segment 2A Project began construction on January 28, 2012. Project completion is scheduled for early 2014. The Prime Contractor is Guy F. Atkinson Construction, LLC. The project cost is $16.5 million.

Phase 1, Segment 1A construction completed the segment from Oakesdale Ave SW to Naches Ave SW.
Ultimately, future projects will complete the four/five lane arterial that will serve as a connection between West Valley Highway (SR-181) and the East Valley Road. The new east-west arterial roadway will connect the cities of Renton and Tukwila, and provide significant congestion relief to existing arterials, for both freight mobility and general motorists.
